Introduction

The Sugar Cane Growers Council’s Board approved the establishment of a conveyancing department at the Head Office. With the objective of providing various conveyancing services to the cane growers of Fiji, the department was set up in February 2003 and services started with the appointment of Executive Officer, Mrs Savitri Narayan. The Sugar Cane Growers Council was established under the Sugar Industry Act No.8 of 1984 to protect and further the interests of registered cane growers of Fiji.

It is the peak cane growers’ organization representing the interests of all registered cane growers in Fiji.

Aims

To provide affordable conveyancing services to all cane growers and agricultural sector workers of the country.

To become self sufficient in all forms of legal matter relating to the Council

Conveyancing Services

Probates:
A Probate is prepared in cases of deaths, where a person leaves behind a Will which instructs how his/her assets are distributed to the beneficiaries.

Requirements:

  1. Original Will
  2. Original Death Certificate

Letters of Administration

Letters of Administration is prepared when a person dies without leaving a Will.

Requirements:

  1. Original Death Certificate
  2. Marriage Certificate.
  3. Birth Certificates of all children

Transfer of Farm

From one person to another by selling or by giving as a gift.

Requirements:

  1. Original Lease/Title
  2. Original Certificate of Registration or a copy from SIT
  3. For Gifts valuation certificate is required.

Crop Lien

Crop Lien is prepared on crops (sugar cane) which authorizes the payment of all proceeds of the crop in the account when the grower borrows money.

Requirements:

  1. Original Lease/Title
  2. Certificate of Registration

Power of Attorney

This document is prepared when you nominate someone to carry out responsibilities for you in your absence.

Requirements:

  1. Original/Certified true copy of Lease/Title.
  2. Certificate of Registration.

Last Will and Testaments

Will is prepared when one decides to give ones personal belongings or assets to his/her beneficiaries upon his/her death.

Requirements

  1. Record of all assets and evidence of ownership
  2. Birth Certificate of Beneficiaries.

Agreements

Agreements are prepared to bind two parties together to the agreed Terms and Conditions.
- Sales and Purchase
- Growers and Substitute Agreement
- Cane Harvesting Agreement

Requirements

  1. Original Lease/Title
  2. Original Certificate of Registration
  3. Birth Certificate of the Parties.

Achievments

  • Since starting conveyancing services in Feb, 2003, a total of 2,545 registered cane growers have benefited from these low cost services.
  • A net savings of $212,008.08 has been realized by growers.
  • Council costs are user pay based and include charges borne by the Council Fours Stamp Duty/Filing Fees/Agency Fees/Telephones & Fax usage/Courier Services etc
